Craig Leo

Associate Puppetry Director

Craig Leo is a puppeteer, performing artist, production designer and co-founder of acrobatic theatre
company Myth. He was apprenticed to designer, puppeteer and circus performer Keith Anderson and
trained with Zip Zap Circus. He has worked and toured as a puppeteer with Handspring Puppet Company on Tall Horse, Il Ritorno d’Ulisse, House of the Dancing Water, Or You Could Kiss Me and War Horse, for which he co-created the role of lead horse and was associate puppetry director in the West End and the Netherlands. Designs include costumes for Bolero, Romeo and Juliet, Afro-Dizzia, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; production design for Medea, Bolero, Rain in a Dead Man’s Footprints, Cargo, Partly God, Lovaffair, London Road, Wombtide, Benchmarks, The Flying Dutchman, ’Nite Mother, The Heart of Redness, The Flower of Shembe, Voices Made Night, Waiting for the Barbarians and Heart of Redness. In 2013, he co-founded New Moon Collective, exploring large-scale imagery and site-specific outdoor spectacle as a medium. He recently collaborated with Janni Younge Productions on a dance and puppetry reimagining of Stravinsky’s The Firebird, which toured South Africa and the USA, and directed the puppetry for Handspring’s Olifantland in South Africa.
