Matthew Gough trained at the University of Surrey in Music and Sound Recording. Following
graduation from the Tonmeister course, he worked as a classical music engineer, producer, and editor
for, amongst others, Decca, EMI and many other smaller labels. He then worked in post-production
sound for film, working with Paul Hamblin at Boom. Shortly after, he moved to De Lane Lea, gaining
experience and working on highprofile film projects. Whilst there he received a nomination for a BAFTA
for his work with Walter Murch and Mike Prestwood-Smith on Anthony Minghella’s Cold Mountain, and
worked with directors including Stephen Daldry, Mike Leigh, Alfonso Cuarón and many others. In 2005
he left De Lane Lea to pursue a freelance career as a re-recording mixer, sound supervisor and director of sound. He has worked all over the world on both film and theatre projects, and has worked as music associate on War Horse in the West End and many of its international versions.
