Matthew Forbes
Associate Puppetry Director
Matthew Forbes trained as an actor at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, specialising in Collaborative and Devised Theatre. He works internationally as an actor and director, with a strong focus on puppetry, object manipulation and physical theatre. Most recently Matthew directed the world premiere of Treasure Island, by established author and national treasure, Sandi Toksvig. Puppetry and movement direction include: Once on this Island for Arts Ed, Babe The Sheep-Pig at Polka Theatre, and on UK and Australian tours; Kiki’s Delivery Service at Southwark Playhouse; Dinner at the Twits and Adventures in Wonderland for Les Enfants Terribles at The Vaults; The Witches at Dundee Rep; and The Steadfast Tin Soldier at Little Angel and the Old Vic. Work as an associate or assistant director includes War Horse UK tour 2017-2018, War Horse UK, Ireland and South African tour 2013-2015; and War Horse Netherlands and Belgium tour 2014-2016. Theatre work as a performer includes War Horse for the National Theatre; Kiki’s Delivery Service at Southwark Playhouse; The Wizard of Oz on tour; The Witches and Beauty and the Beast at Dundee Rep; Alice’s Adventures Underground for Les Enfants Terribles; War Horse – The Prom at the Royal Albert Hall; Permission to Play at Shakespeare’s Globe; The Little Gardener on tour, Boy A at Embassy Studios; A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Embassy. TV as a performer includes Robin Hood. Film as a performer includes Hot Fuzz and The Silent Cormorant. He has provided voiceovers for Boyster, The Fashion Priest, SoulBoy and Snap.
